Proactol Plus™ Review
Are Stomach Balloons The Way Forward For Obese Patients?
The last three decades have presented numerous different surgical procedures for beating obesity – gastric bypass and laparoscopic gastric band placements included. However despite the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services directive in 2006 which required all Centers to have qualified staff and equipment, these methods of weight loss procedures are still life threatening.
Even considering recent improvements wherecomplication rates have fallen from 12.2% of patients to 10%, and mortality rates has shrunk from 0.28% to 0.20% - these modifications are not enough when you factor in the thousands of obese individuals who undergo these surgeries every single year…
Yet, this could soon all be changing if the ReShape's double balloon meets the approval of the FDA.
placement tube
inflated balloon
deflated balloon
Structured to help obese patients who fall just below or above eligibility settings for gastric bypass and band cosmetic procedures, or who are under 18; the dual action balloon system could easily support this ignored group of people.
Currently, the double-balloon mechanism is inserted down a slimmer's throat using a tube before being inflated with saline. As these two oval balloons are pumped, slimmer's will soon will feel full and will naturally be able to reduce their meal portions and lose weight.
More excitingly, once patients reach their ideal weight loss, this double balloon system can easily by deflated and removed from the stomach without risk.
Currently, this double balloon is scheduled to complete its first medical studyat the start of April where 30 consumers across 3 medical centers will be implanted with the balloon. Should it prove safe and effective, this research will be applied to 350 patients across 10 centers and eventually will be to the FDA for permission to be used.
Does it work?
It is undeniable that this device could essentially help hundreds of thousands of consumers who are either too young for gastric bypasses or suffer from diabetes, heart disease and muscle problems to lose those excess lbs, however this double-balloon has got far to travelbefore it is approved.
Twenty six years ago a similar single balloon device was created by Garren-Edwards . However, with no backup membrane to prevent leakages, this mechanism was prone to leaking and slipping into the small intestine where it caused serious blockages.
Consequently, this device was quickly removed from the market.
